Zakir Hussain, tabla virtuoso, dies aged 73
Renowned tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain passed away on Sunday, December 15.
Confirming the news of his death, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting wrote on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter): “The world has lost a true musical genius. Zakir Hussain’s contributions to the world of music will be forever appreciated.”

He was 73 years old.
Hussain’s manager, Nirmala Bachani, said the maestro was battling blood pressure-related problems, according to news agency IANS.
Hussain was born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
As the eldest son of renowned tabla player Allah Rakha, Hussain was naturally drawn to music from an early age.
