Writer and director Mike Wiluan Orang Ikan a creature feature on a deserted island during World War II. One Japanese soldier and one British soldier are castaways, first fighting each other and then forming an unlikely bond to fight a monster lurking in the island’s dense forest. The shipwrecked soldiers are faced with a difficult situation, and soon realize that they are not alone.
The trailer for Orang Ikan reveals the South Pacific island where American POW Bronson (Callum Woodhouse) and Saito (Dean Fujioka), the Japanese soldier who was guarding him, are stranded after their ship sinks. The two begin as mortal enemies, fighting for supremacy along a desolate beach, but their true enemy is yet to be revealed. The two find a creature that lives on a deserted island, and the Orang Ikan is determined to find and destroy the two men.
Award Winning Talent Involved
Orang Ikanwritten and directed by Mike Wiluanco-produced The rich of Asia and he wrote Buffalo Boys. Freddie Yeo, who co-produced The rich of Asia alongside Mike Wiluan and was a producer on Westworldwill rejoin the team, as well as Tan Fong Chen of Ramen Shop and Fumie Suzuki Lancaster of Gensan Punch. The two actors starring in this project are Dean Fujikoa of Fullmetal Alchemist and Callum Woodhouse of All Creatures Great and Small and were joined by Alan Maxson from He has a stork part of V/H/S/Beyond as an Orang Ikan creature.
Based on True Fiction
Based on a true story from the experiences of Japanese soldiers stationed on the Kei Islands in the Indonesian Maluka archipelago during World War II, Orang Ikan The film tells the story of this mythical creature through the eyes of two soldiers stranded on an island alone. Legend has it that the soldiers sometimes saw what the locals called Orang Ikan on the shores around the remote island. The creatures had human faces and body parts but also had pink fish-like skin and spines on their heads. They were seen surfing even in the local harbors.
A combination of dynamic talent pool and fantastic historical fiction, as well as soldiers from warring sides in the war, promises to bring a taste of the classic creature Orang Ikan. If the trailer is any indication, the film has a charming backdrop that manages to be terrifying and captivating at the same time. The deserted island where the legend of the Orang Ikan was born may have fallen on the one where the two legendary soldiers in the film lie, giving this historical monster a dim, timeless quality.
Coming soon to Japan
It will premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival, Orang Ikan released a trailer ahead of the festival, giving audiences a taste of some of its classic monster movie styles. The film will also be screened at the Singapore International Film Festival and will be released in Japan on October 30. It will also be available through the Plex streaming service for American audiences. There is no official date for its release Orang Ikan in US theaters now.
