Deontay Wilder will fight at BLK Prime in April against an opponent yet to be determined. Wilder’s manager, Shelly Finkel, will reveal the opponent in Los Angeles on Saturday.
In order for BLK Prime to get their money’s worth, Wilder needs to fight someone the fans want to see. He looked awful in his last two fights, losing to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker.
April is coming back
There has been talk of Francis Ngannou possibly fighting Wilder. If it is the opponent, some people would like to see the match because Ngannou gave Tyson Fury a lot of problems. This was Fury out of shape.
Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs) is coming off a fifth-round knockout of Zhilei Zhang on June 1 in Riyadh. This was the fourth for Deontay, 39, in his last five fights since 2020.
The shots that Zhang hit Wilder with were more difficult than those that Tyson Fury hit in his three fights with him.
The ‘Bronze Bomber’ hasn’t looked the same champion since he was knocked out by Tyson Fury in the seventh round of their rematch on February 22, 2020.
“I was told that @BronzeBomber will be back in the fight coming back in April on BLK Prime. Wilder and manager Shelley Finkel will meet with the media in Los Angeles on Saturday to announce the opponent,” said Manouk Akopyan on X, talking about Deontay Wilder’s next fight.
Fans would like to see Deontay fight with the same brutal intensity that he had in his prime, but that doesn’t seem likely. He’s about to turn 40, super-rich with an estimated net worth of $40 million, and he can’t pull his trigger anymore.
It’s not that he can’t. He seems to be afraid to throw just because he is afraid to be met. That’s how Fury hurt Wilder, and it seems like he’s having trouble forgetting that terrible incident.
Wilder has won just one fight in the past five years, defeating former partner Robert Helenius by knockout in 2022.
