He’s doing well for Jaron ‘Boots’ as IBF welterweight champion, facing a tough fight in Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, but I don’t see him standing a chance if he chooses to move up to face Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF junior middleweight title.
Ennis (32-0, 29 KO) is spinning his wheels at 147, hoping to one day become the undefeated champion in the division. He will eventually realize that he will not get a chance to fight anywhere of the welterweight titles due to a combination of the financial demands of other champions and network and promotional issues.
For Ennis’ sake, he must wake up and understand that his promoter, Hearn, will not be able to fight for the fights he needs at welterweight to achieve his goal. He needs to step up while he’s still young.
Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs) could indulge Boot with a shot at the IBF belt if the money is right. It wouldn’t be the fight Murtazaliev wanted, but he will be shunned by other 154 lb champions after what he did to former WBO champion Tim Tszyu last Saturday night in Orlando, Florida.
Murtazaliev will be shunned by other champions now. It will be worse than before when the champions offer Murtazaliev severance agreements to avoid him.

Ennis is a good fighter at 147, but he doesn’t show any out-of-this-world power, and he gets hit a lot. We have seen how Bhuti went through life and death with Roiman Villa with a heavy hand last year on July 8.
Ennis took the most important penalty of his career against Villa. In addition, Boots was made to look like he had two left feet by Karen Chukhadzhian in their 12-round fight in January 2023. Boots looked so bad in that fight that people are still talking about it today.
Murtazaliev’s strength will play a big role in why he will destroy Boot Ennis. He is a puncher by nature. Ennis also has good power, but not as extreme as Murtazaliev.
Normally, it takes Boots more rounds to score less goals, and that’s against the lower-tier teams his managers have matched him with. Recently it took Boots ten rounds to take out Roiman Villa. In Roiman’s last fight on September 14, he was knocked out in the 3rd round by Ricardo Salas Rodriguez. That guy is not a great player at 147.
Boot will have to risk his career immediately and move up to 154 because he is not going anywhere at 147. can be shown that you want to meet the price they are asking for. If Boot steps up, he can face Murtazaliev and show the boxing world what he can do against a fighter who easily finished Tszyu.
If Ennis were to beat Murtzaliev, his career would shoot through the roof because the Russian’s popularity is sky high after the way he demolished Tszyu. Beating Murtazaliev now would qualify for 100 wins for Karen Chukhadzhian, and that’s the kind of opposition she’ll always be up against if she chooses to stay at 147 for her hopeless dream of one day in the distant future, taking the undisputed championship.
The fight between Ennis and Murtazalev will be seen as a 50-50 match. Fans would be excited to watch this tournament because it will be like a monster movie. Instead of Boot fighting the guys who just attacked his promoter Hearn, he will be facing someone who can beat him.
