Who Will Fight Terence Crawford If The Canelo Alvarez Match Doesn’t Happen?

Terence Crawford looks like he’s done for the year after his one-off fight with Israel Madrimov on August 3 after a 13-month layoff.
It doesn’t look like Crawford, 37, (41-0, 31 KOs) is going to get the good fight he was hoping for against Canelo Alvarez. It doesn’t look good for Crawford to get a fight with Canelo before he retires. Canelo may move up to 175 to fight for an undisputed championship. If he stays at 168, he can fight Chris Mbilli, Chris Eubank Jr. or Hamzah Sheeraz.
The Mexican star does not like to fight Crawford unless he has to shell out a mountain of money that is said to be $150 million. However, Crawford can still bring in some good dough in the time he has left in his career.
Crawford’s bad experience against ‘Little GGG’ Madrimov on August 3rd may have scared him into fighting some killers at 154 to fight again in 2024. At this point, it’s clear that Crawford won’t be back in the ring until 2025, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s exactly one year from his fight with Madrimov in August.
What Crawford needs to do to help make a fight with Canelo more realistic in 2025 is to move up to 168 and fight one of these killers this December:
– Caleb Plant
– Osleys Iglesias
– Diego Pacheco
– Edgar Berlanga
– Jaime Munguia
If Crawford isn’t willing to prove himself against one of the 168-pounders, he can move up to 160 and challenge. Janibek Alimkhanuly for his IBF and WBO middleweight titles. He currently has no opponent after finishing Andrei Mikhailovich. If Crawford can beat Janibek, that would help show fans that he is a legitimate opponent for Alvarez.
Crawford needs to show Canelo and the fans that he’s not just looking to get his retirement money. This should be a sport, not a retirement fund for fighters who have lost their desire to fight for belts.
