Turki Al-Shiekh says the result of the first fight of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk would be “different” if Gyspy King’s father, John Fury, wasn’t in his corner between rounds.
SugarHill and John Fury told Tyson to do things that didn’t work because of his age, slow movement, and large size. John’s advice was not a problem. If you have an old, limited war, even complete instructions will not help.
Fury is like a controlled dinosaur except for Usyk’s speed, which is very fast. The instructions from SugaHill and John in his corner were of no use to him.
Was John a distraction?
John Fury was just there, giving simple instructions, and not talking much. He felt fit in the corner.
If anything, John was one good voice in Fury’s corner that night because SugarHill Steward didn’t look like he was much help. He looked like someone who was panicking when things turned sour for Tyson.
Tyson’s real problem was Usyk’s talent. He wasn’t good enough to shoot, and he looked mentally weak when the talented Ukrainian player hurt him in the ninth round.
When I look back at the fight, it was not apparent that Tyson paid attention to his father, John Fury, between rounds. He always looked to and listened to his coach, SugarHill Steward, for guidance.
Fury’s problem was really his own not being able to handle a body shot from Usyk, which made him fight the ropes. Tyson’s departure was not in this fight. He looked as if age had caught up with him, preventing him from fighting in the center of the ring.
Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) lost the first fight via a 12-round split decision to Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) on May 18, 2024.
“Fury-Usyk, the lack of atmosphere, I felt it hurt him in the last two or three rounds. I felt it would have been different if it had been at Wembley [Stadium] in England. Maybe Tyson would listen,” he said Carl Froch on his YouTube channel about his belief that Tyson Fury would have defeated Oleksandr Usyk in their first fight on May 18th in 2024 if the tournament had been held in London, England.

John looked harmless in the corner during the first fight. Some fans believe that John gave instructions that conflicted with what SugarHill Steward told him during the fight, but it was a case of Tyson not having the talent to do what he was told.
