The Warriors recently acquired Dennis Schroder, but the franchise’s top spot may not be finished yet with Jimmy Butler heading their way.
The Warriors are the only team of the four (Warriors, Rockets, Mavericks and Suns) that have been heavily linked to Himmy Buckets that could eventually lead to “trade talk,” according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.
The Warriors are one of Butler’s preferred trade destinations if he were to leave Miami.
The Rockets and Mavericks are also two teams that Butler is interested in being traded to, although both have reportedly not registered “significant interest” in the 35-year-old, Stein said.
The Warriors have a tight cap on the first apron in the tax bracket.
The team will remain just over $330,000 under the cap after the Schroder trade, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Bobby Marks.
Butler has $49 million in his contract with the Heat this season and a $52 million player option for 2025-26, since the Heat and Butler failed to reach an extension last summer.
The Warriors will definitely need to make some cap space to trade Butler.
Andrew Wiggins’ contract is worth $26.3 million this season, so Golden State will need to include other players in the deal such as Jonathan Kuminga,
If the Warriors were to sign Butler, they would be getting him in the midst of his best scoring streak in five years, averaging 18.6 points in 31.9 minutes per game in the 2024-25 season.
But, he’s still shooting at a career-high 55 percent efficiency rate from the field.
Pairing Butler with Draymond Green and Steph Curry could be a winning combination, but the Dubs would be throwing away their future with a team that wins now.
