“Yesterday I felt unwell and was admitted [the] in the hospital,” The Wanted frontman, 36, wrote in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, December 12. “Unfortunately after some tests they found out that I have problems with my heart.”
George, who posted a selfie from a hospital bed, added that he would need “a lot of tests to determine the extent of the problems” and that he would need “surgery” before he could start again. The British superstar shared that his visit to the hospital will be long, so he will stay there for the holidays.
“It’s going to be a tough few weeks/months… and Christmas in a hospital bed was not what I had planned!” he continued. But, as always, I am surrounded by love and support from my wonderful partner Maisie [Smith,] his family, my family and friends.. and I am in a 100% better place.
George admitted that he was surprised by the diagnosis, but remains optimistic as the condition seems to have been caught quickly.
“Although this is a major shock and undoubtedly a setback,” he wrote. “It’s something I will face with everything I have! I consider myself very lucky that this was caught in time. “
The “Glad You Come” singer has promised fans that he will let them know as he will “probably” spend “a month” resting in bed.
Several of George’s loved ones and friends took to the comments section to wish him a speedy recovery.
“Here’s to you brother,” the band Siva Kaneswaran answered. “Rest and get well soon ❤️.”
Smith, 23, also shared her support for her boyfriend, writing, “Love you Max ❤️.”
After revealing he was in hospital, George shared a series of clips from his room on his Instagram Story. Another video showed his patient information board. On the erase board, it was said that the one thing George wanted to do was watch a Manchester City football match. In the next photo, George shared a video of himself watching the game while sleeping.

George is one of the five members of the British boy band The Wanted, who disbanded in 2014. Apart from George and Kaneswaran, the team included Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuinness and late Tom Parker. (Parker died in March 2022 after a battle with brain disease. After Parker’s death, the men reunited to re-record their song “Gold Forever” in honor of their late bandmate and donated the proceeds to The Brain Tumor Charity.)
Earlier this year, George and Kaneswaran announced that they are back together in their new group The Wanted 2.0. The pair revealed that they plan to hold a series of concerts in the UK and North America.
“After the limelight, I am ready to bring the magic again. WANTED 2.0 🖤💙,” the artists announced in October.
