Van Halen’s Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth nearly came to blows before canceling a reunion tour.

Alex Van Halen has said that an argument between him and David Lee Roth almost turned violent and canceled plans for a Van Halen reunion tour after the death of Eddie Van Halen.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 71-year-old drummer, who was Eddie’s brother, recalled that he and the 70-year-old singer started rehearsing for the tour after Eddie. He died in October 2020 after suffering a massive stroke following a battle with throat cancer.

After discussions with Queen’s Brian May about the band’s tribute to the late Freddie Mercury during the tour, Alex approached Roth about introducing the late guitarist at their shows.

“It was the thing that broke the camel’s back, and I can be honest about it now,” Alex said. “I was like, ‘Dave, at some point, we should have a big show – not a bow – but admitting Ed to the gig. If you look at how Queen is doing, they’re showing classics.’ And when I said we should admit Ed, Dave f—–‘ just blew the fuse….”

The drummer said Roth rejected the idea outright, reportedly finding it “offensive.”

A representative for Roth did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Alex remembered that he had a strong reaction to his disagreement with Roth.

“I’m from the street,” he said. “‘You talk to me like that, mother—–, I’m going to blow your mind. Have you got it?’ And I mean that.

“It’s like, oh my God. It’s like I didn’t know you,” he told Rolling Stone. “I have nothing but great respect for his work and all that. But, Dave, you have to work as a community, mother—–. You’re not alone anymore.”

Before the fight, Alex said they both planned to sign up guitarist Joe Satriani and Van Halen original bassist Michael Anthony for a reunion tour.

However, Alex told Rolling Stone that he won’t be able to tour either because his mobility has been limited due to a spinal injury he suffered in 2022.

“Too bad on one hand, but good on the other,” Alex said. “Because now, when I look back, playing old songs doesn’t really respect anybody. That’s just like a jukebox, in my opinion. … Finding a replacement for Ed? It’s just not the same.”

While speaking to Rolling Stone, Alex took a lighter approach to Roth’s outcry against his niece, explaining that it should be viewed as a compliment.

“For me, it’s a sign of respect,” Alex said. “You actually think that Wolfie is on the same level as old master Dave, right? Another thing is that Wolfie can easily take care of himself. It’s not a problem.”
