“One of the biggest brands in the world – global brand, innovation, technology, consumer access,” said Brown, adding that the partnership with Mastercard is another way to help McLaren build better relationships with fans. “It is very important for us. (Mastercard’s) sponsorship fund is at a high level and we are looking forward to working with other sports.

“I think a successful partnership is one where you get a lot of support from management that will no doubt be passed on to the rest of the organization. So, [Mastercard] cold in every box.”

Rajamannar said the company wanted to be in Formula 1 because of its growth in the last few years, and because of McLaren’s product and success, it was “obvious” that it should partner with the racing team.

“This company and this brand has an amazing history … and recently it has been recognized as the most popular brand based on our research among all groups,” Rajamannar said. “When we go into a relationship, we want to make sure we’re appealing to everyone, not just a certain belief.”

Brown said that when McLaren Racing embarked on a journey to grow the organization in 2017, it had no major brands to partner with and suggested that growth has exceeded expectations.

“If you look at where we are today, I think we have won the world championship with our race car. I hope that will be followed by winning the world championship in the race.”

Earlier on Thursday, Rajamannar said Mastercard offered 135 cardholders special Grandstand tickets and a Cirque du Soleil experience. The number 135 honors Piasri’s fastest mark set at last year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix.
