Tyson Fury Says Age Was Gained on Joshua in Dubois Loss

Tyson Fury says age is against Anthony Joshua on Saturday night against IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in London. Fury feels that Joshua, 35, (28-4, 23 KOs) has faced a much younger fight, Dubois, 27, (22-2, 21 KOs), who knows how to hit.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has done an excellent job of hiding AJ’s age by comparing him to a team that is unbeaten in his last four fights after losing two in a row to Oleksandr Usyk. Hearn ended up matching Joshua with a fighter with the ability to show his age, and we saw the result tonight.
At first Fury dismissed Joshua’s defeat saying it could happen to anyone in the heavyweight division, which is true. However, as he spoke more, he admitted that Joshua’s age was a factor.
It is not something that Fury (36) likes to talk about because he is facing similar problems. He lost his last fight against Usyk on May 18 and looked like a shell of his former self in that contest.
There is a good chance that Fury will lose the rematch on December 21 and face the same retirement questions as Joshua.
There is not much that Joshua and his promoter Hearn can do about his aging because there is no fountain of youth that he can drink to become young again. The only options are to avoid dangerous guys like Dubois and focus on fighting weak boxers who can’t replicate what we saw tonight.
“It’s heavyweight boxing. [Stuff] it happened. He is struck by a spark. It could be me. In the heavyweight category, this is what is happening,” said Tyson Fury to the media in response to Anthony Joshua’s defeat by Daniel Dubois on Saturday night.
Fury was almost knocked out in his last fight against Usyk and it was possible that the referee did not save him in the ninth round by awarding eight points.
“What’s wrong is what always happens in heavyweight boxing. A nice right hand to the end of the chin, that was it. I don’t know. It is up to the man and whatever he wants to do. If he has good intentions to come back again, he can make his own decisions. He is a big boy.
“I thought it was a 50-50 fight. Dubois is very young. He is 27 years old. Joshua is 35 years old, my age. Years wait for no one. You get hit with those fists. “You don’t see a lot of heavyweights get hit, get knocked down, get up, and keep going,” said Fury about Joshua.
AJ bounced back from the first three knockdowns, but that was a big deal for it to happen late in the rounds. In the last match of the fifth, Joshua could not go back because he was already counted, and his coach, Ben Davison, entered the ring while the referee was counting.
“I’ve got to fight my man, the rabbit,” Fury said of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on Dec. 21. “I’m going to get all my belts back.”
It doesn’t seem logical that Fury will win his rematch with Usyk. There is a good chance that syk will knock Fury down following what he did in their last fight by submitting him with a lot of punches. If Usyk follows the same plan from the ninth round, he will knock out Fury.
I assure you. After I fought Usyk in December and beat him, I’m going to get back all the belts I shouldn’t have lost. Then I’ll fight Dubois and take that away from him again. That’s my plan.”
Fury should not worry too much because the Honorable Turki Alalshikh has told him that he can still fight Joshua, even if he loses the next fight with Usyk. Reduced load. If Fury loses, he can come up with a good excuse to tell the fans to explain away the loss, and they’ll still want to see him fight AJ next.
