12 people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning at a ski resort in Georgia, police said.
The bodies of 11 foreigners and one Georgian were found in a lodge above a restaurant in Gudauri, the largest and highest ski resort in the former Soviet Union, according to officials.
The police said that “initial tests do not show that there is any violence on the bodies” and that it appears to have been an accident, AFP news agency reported.
An oil-fired generator was on after the building lost power on Friday, officials added.
The bodies were found on Saturday on the second floor of a building that houses an Indian restaurant.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident and the bodies have not yet been identified.
Gudauri is a popular tourist destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, with a range of winter sports for visitors of all levels.
Its history dates back to the 19th century when it was known as an ancient trading place Georgian Military Road connecting Russia and Georgia.
Gudauri is located in the Caucasus Mountains in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region about 2,200 meters (7,200ft) above sea level and 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of the Georgian capital Tbilisi.
