Toxicology tests show Liam Payne had ‘multiple’ drugs in system: reports

Pop star Liam Payne had multiple drugs including crack cocaine and methamphetamine in his system when he fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Argentina, according to preliminary toxicology reports cited by US media on Monday.

The British singer and former member of One Direction died last week at the age of 31, after falling from a third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires.

ABC News and TMZ said a compound of drugs called “pink cocaine” — containing methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA — was found during the autopsy, citing unnamed sources familiar with the preliminary investigation.

Crack cocaine and benzodiazepines are also listed.

An “improvised aluminum drug delivery pipe” was also found in the room, ABC reported.

Payne — who was found dead after staff called 911 twice to report a guest “under the influence of drugs and alcohol” was “ruining” the hotel room — had spoken publicly about struggling with substance abuse and dealing with fame from a young age.

Autopsy results showed he was alone at the time of the crash and was “under the influence of substance abuse,” prosecutors previously said.

The singer suffered “repeated trauma” and “bleeding internally and externally,” they said.

The Clarin newspaper published photos last week of the interior of Payne’s room, with white powder visible on a table next to an aluminum foil and a lightning bolt. The pictures also show a broken television.

The prosecutor’s office said what appeared to be “drugs and alcohol” were found among broken furniture and other items.

A hotel employee suspected of giving Payne drugs the day she died has been interviewed by officials, but has not been arrested or charged, local police told ABC News.

Payne was a member of One Direction, the highly successful pop group whose fame began in 2010 on the British television talent competition “The X Factor.”

One of the top-grossing live acts in the world, the band went on hiatus in 2016.

Payne has continued to enjoy solo success, but in recent years has spoken openly about struggles with alcoholism and fame.

He was the father of a seven-year-old boy he shared with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy.
