Former British No. 1 Tim Henman is taking part in a 24-hour tennis tournament to raise funds for his private foundation to support disadvantaged young people. The 11-time tour-level line-up played tennis from 9am to 9pm on 30 November and 1 December at the Indoor Tennis Center at the All England Club, Wimbledon.
“I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunities in my life. It’s not like that for everyone,” said Henman. “Through our work at THF we would like to provide sports and education opportunities to many disadvantaged youth. Perhaps because of today’s challenges, physical and mental health is more important than ever.
In the 24th hour of the challenge, the former number 4 player in the PIF ATP Rankings was joined by two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.
“He was able to return to the tennis court for the final hour of the Tim Henman 24 hour Tennis Challenge @wimbledon. I was so bad,” Murray jokingly captioned a photo on Instagram, posing with Henman.
Henman was also joined by sports and entertainment celebrities and fans at each venue, including former cricketer Andrew Strauss. ATP and WTA stars Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu and broadcaster Laura Robson also appeared.
“Please donate to the Tim Henman Foundation’s Christmas Appeal. Any donations over £10 will be doubled and entered into a prize list for a signed bag and racquet from me,” Draper shared on the Tim Henman Foundation Instagram account.
The Tim Henman Foundation was relaunched in June 2015. According to the foundation’s official website, it is “a youth charity with a mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people by creating sporting and educational opportunities and improving the mental and physical health of our partners”.
