Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big time gym girl who aims to hit her body weight in grams of protein. Whether that means always meal prepping or spending extra money at the grocery store, I always have high-protein meals and snacks to support my training. Yes, it’s a hassle, but it’s a responsibility worth it!
When it comes to pre-made snacks, I’m also a big-time ingredient snob – especially when it comes to protein bars. If something has a lot of chemicals, hard to pronounce ingredients, added sugar or saturated fat, I won’t buy it. The protein to calorie ratio should also be close to 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories – as a general rule – to ensure I’m getting the most bang for my buck. In case you can’t tell, I choose as it happens!
And yes, yes, taste is important. Snacks should be “right for you” in terms of value, calories and value — that is, how much high-quality protein am I getting. While I usually opt for whey or milk protein bars, I’ve been obsessed with these vegan protein bars that you wouldn’t know were vegan. They taste like a bad meal – without any guilt!
These caramel fudge bars are made with pea and soy protein isolate, dairy-free chocolate and vegan caramel, but here’s the kicker: they’re completely sugar-free! Unlike most protein bars on the market, which are subtle sweets, natural (sugar-free) sweeteners give these bars their dessert-like taste. A dream come true for candy lovers with protein and health goals to achieve.
In addition to having one gram of sugar, the bars are low in saturated fat – only three grams. They’re also packed with five grams of hunger-busting fiber and 15 grams of protein! It’s a satisfying meal, to say the least; you’ll probably choose it over your current dessert. The texture is chewy and soft, perfect for candy lovers, chocoholics and good baked goods connoisseurs.
Even if you’re not a fan of chocolate and caramel, there are four other flavors to choose from: cookie butter, brownie batter, peanut butter and cookie dough. All flavors have between 14 and 15 grams of protein and only 190 calories, so they’re close to the protein-to-calorie ratio I’m shooting for. Each pack comes with 15 bars, too, so think about your snack, dessert, breakfast and 3pm decadence needs.
