Industrial supply company WW Grainger took first place in this year’s American Opportunity Index, which its creators say “reveals which of America’s largest companies are doing everything they can to improve the careers of their workers and grow the middle class” at work. the market.
The index considered factors such as hiring, pay, promotion, equity and culture at several of America’s largest companies over a five-year period to determine the order of Grainger’s rankings. The ranking uses data about the “occupation fields” of more than 5 million workers and pays particular attention to positions that don’t require a college degree, it said.
The American Opportunity Index gave Grainger, which employs more than 26,000 people, 4 points for hiring, pay, cultural fit, and 3 points for promotion.

According to the American Opportunity Index, the companies that received the highest rankings this year include:

The 2024 entry for three of those companies – JB Hunt, PepsiCo and MetLife – marked a jump out of the top ten. They were No. 21, 19 and 16, respectively, last year, according to the index.
The American Opportunity Index includes 395 large American companies, 100 of which are called “top performers.”
When it comes to the top 100 companies in terms of pay, their employees received 130% more compensation than those in the bottom 100 in that category, according to the American Opportunity Index.
