The video shows the boat sinking in the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan, not near the tourist resort of Bali
Similar posts were also shared on Instagram, Braids and YouTube.
The video, however, was not filmed in Banyuwangi or Bali.
I The port authority office in the province of East Java, responsible for the port of Ketapang, told AFP on October 2 that there were no recent reports of ship capsizing in the area.
“There have never been any incidents like this at the Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing,” the office said. It added that it is “clear” the port of entry for the fake documents is different from Banyuwangi and Bali ports.
Port of West Kalimantan
A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the falsely shared video led to the same images used in a Kompas TV broadcaster’s report from 20 February 2021 (archived link).
The report, posted on the broadcaster’s verified YouTube channel, is titled, “Crossing Motor Boat ‘Bili’ Capsized at Perigi Piai Pier, Sambas”.

The report states that the boat capsized while the passengers were disembarking in Perigi Piai, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan province on February 20, 2021.
According to the transport department, they were there no one was injured from the event (archived link).
This incident was also covered by reports of Kumparan and government news agency Antara (archived links here and here).
The images correspond to images of the port of Perigi Piai, also known as “Perigi Piyai”, on Google Maps (archived link).
