The Teamsters union is launching a historic nationwide strike against Amazon

Thousands of Amazon workers nationwide organized under the Teamsters union will go on the line at 6 a.m. after the company’s “repeated refusal to follow the law and negotiate,” the union said.
Amazon Teamsters at seven facilities in Skokie, Illinois; New York City, Atlanta, San Francisco and Southern California will participate in the “biggest strike” against a company worth trillions in American history, according to the union. Employees from other institutions are ready to join.
Although the Teamsters say they represent about 10,000 people at Amazon’s 10 U.S. facilities, the company does not recognize unionization.
Amazon says the Teamsters union is “intentional [misleading] community” because they represent Amazon workers and drivers, company spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said in a statement to Fox Business.

“For over a year now, the Teamsters have continued to deliberately mislead the public – claiming they represent ‘thousands of Amazon workers and drivers’. They don’t, and this is another attempt to push a false narrative,” Nantel said. . “The truth is that the Teamsters intimidated, intimidated and tried to coerce Amazon workers and third-party drivers into joining, which is illegal and is the subject of numerous lawsuits against union workers.”
Nantel also said the company “does not expect any impact on our operations.”

The strike comes after the Teamsters said Amazon ignored a Dec. 15 union deadline to negotiate new contracts for higher wages, better benefits and safer working conditions.
“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They are ignoring you,” said Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien.
He went on to say: “These greedy managers had every opportunity to show dignity and respect to the people who make their dirty profits, instead they pushed the workers to the limit and now they are paying, this strike is upon them. “

Amazon Fulfillment Centers across the country will have basic pick-up lines set up by local unions, the Teamsters said, and warehouse workers and drivers without collective bargaining agreements can legally honor them by holding their jobs.
“Amazon is one of the biggest, richest companies in the world,” said Gabriel Irizarry, a driver at DIL7 in Skokie, Illinois. “They talk a big game about taking care of their workers, but when it comes down to it, Amazon doesn’t even respect our right to negotiate for better working conditions and wages. We can’t even pay our bills.”

In an X post Wednesday night, the Teamsters said their Amazon workers had lost patience with the company and were preparing to “strike” to win the contract they deserve.

“What we’re doing is history,” said Leah Pensler, a warehouse worker at DCK6 in San Francisco. “We are fighting a vicious campaign of union busting, and we will win.”
