Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Africa’s youngest elected leader, became president of Senegal in April, weeks after being released from prison. The rise of this 44-year-old player follows the political turmoil and marked him as a symbol of hope for the youth of Senegal. Faye promised to reform the economy, tackle unemployment, and ensure a fair share of resources. Five months into his presidency, these issues are still relevant. But critics accuse him of consolidating power after dissolving parliament and calling snap elections.
