The plane made an emergency landing after a live rat got out of the in-flight meal
A flight from Norway to Spain had to make an emergency landing in Denmark after a rat got out of a passenger’s food on board.
The Scandinavian Airlines flight was flying from Oslo, Norway to Malaga, Spain, CBS News’ partner told BBC News.
Passenger Jarle Borrestad told the BBC that he was sitting next to the woman whose rat food was there. When he opened the food in the box, the mouse ran away, he said.
He said he pulled his socks up his pant legs to prevent the rat from scratching, but insisted that people remained calm and “not stressed at all.”
Airline spokesman Oystein Schmidt told AFP that the emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark was in line with the company’s procedures, as rats and other rodents could pose a security risk. Airlines often have strict restrictions on rodents on board, as they can chew through electrical wires, reports the BBC.
“This is something that doesn’t happen very often,” Schmidt told AFP.
Schmidt also said that in-flight food suppliers will be reviewed “to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Passengers were transferred to a different flight to continue their journey to Spain. Borrestad told the BBC that the delay only added a few hours to the journey.
