The free WeTransfer plan now has a monthly limit of 10 transfers

File transfer service WeTransfer now limits users to 10 transfers per month with its free plan. The company is already implementing the new limit for users, according to the support page.

At the same time, WeTransfer adds other benefits to the free plans, including increasing the total file transfer limit from 2GB to 3GB, adding unlimited portals (interactive folders to work with customers) and updates, password protection for all transfers. It also removes a 5% fee from paid transfers, a program that allows users to sell files locally.

The company, acquired by Italy’s Bending Spoons in July, is also changing its pricing structure. There is a new WeTransfer Starter plan that costs $6.99 per month. The premium plan has the same benefits as the free plan with an increased size limit of 300GB.

Previously, WeTransfer had a Pro and Premium plan that cost $15 per month and $25 per month in the US Now, the company is bundling all the benefits into a complete $25 per month plan.

At the time of the acquisition, we wrote that Bending Spoons might lay off people from WeTransfer or change the donation price. Both of these are true now. In September, Bending Spoons announced it was cutting 75% of WeTransfer’s workforce. And now, there is a change in the price levels, too.

The company followed the same playbook after acquiring Evernote in 2022. First, it reduced the number of employees working at Evernote, and later, limited the free version of the note-taking app. In August, the company also changed the way file expiration dates work based on the plan you’re signed up to.
