If you’ve spent any time online in the past few weeks, chances are you’re familiar with Moo Deng, the baby hippopotamus at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo. The two-month-old critter has become an instant sensation with zoo visitors, as well as viewers from around the world on TikTok and other social media apps. Moo Deng’s live stream should bring great joy to any Moo Deng fans who can’t make it to Thailand to see him in person.

Moo Deng surprised millions of social media users with his clear face, energetic play, and positive attitude. His name, which translates to “bouncy pig” has become synonymous with the Open Zoo, where staff have found themselves inundated with visitors wearing Moo Deng hats, shirts and other homemade merchandise.

Although many zoos tend to increase their relevance with the display of newborn animals, Moo Deng’s live broadcast seems to prove that the feeling surrounding this pygmy hippo is unlike any other.

Many Moo Deng videos show the creature throwing what can only be described as cute little tantrums, as it continues to embody the spirit of Brat Summer.

Moo Deng’s live stream should bring great joy to any Moo Deng fans who can’t make it to Thailand to see him in person. Social media is flooded with thousands of hippo videos from tourists and park staff alike. These videos include many popular songs that show him snuggling on the zookeeper’s knee, chewing food to imitate his mother, and getting a bath with a hose.

Park staff are currently busy de-sensing Moo Deng so that he cannot be touched by humans, as a way to ensure that he will accept the basic acts of care and sustenance from his human counterparts as he grows older and stronger.

Thanks to this collaboration, many Moo Deng videos show the creature throwing what can only be described as cute little tantrums, as it continues to embody the spirit of Brat Summer.

Long before Moo Deng’s live broadcast was announced, the hippo had already attracted crowds from all over Thailand, as People reported that more than 4,000 daily visitors had been flocking to the hippo’s enclosure since its recent birth.

Last weekend, Khao Kheow Open Zoo recorded more than 10,000 visitors, prompting staff to set a maximum viewing time of 5 minutes at the best Moo Deng spots, to avoid overcrowding. During this time, his schedule consists mostly of playing with the zookeepers, long naps, and only 1 hour of public viewing front and center, starting around 2 p.m.

Although Moo Deng’s live broadcast will be seen by millions of fans, it will also help us to learn more about the hippo population, which is currently in great danger. World wildlife organizations estimate there are less than 3,000 anteaters in the world, meaning Moo Deng’s status as a cultural icon could raise tons of awareness for a worthy cause.
