Outer Banks EPs Plan To ‘Test’ Rafe, Kiara Dynamic After JJ’s Death

All of Pogue will be hurting after the death of the season 4 finale – but it will affect Kiara’s love life in season 5 Foreign Banks?
Warning: Spoilers below for Outer Banks season 4, episode 10.
The idea that Kiara (Madison Bailey) can continue after JJ (Rudy Pankow) died in his arms on Thursday, November 7, OBX the ending, is something that was “hotly debated” in the writers’ room, according to the executive producers. Shannon Burke, Jonas Pate again Josh Pate.
Burke and Josh told Cosmopolitan in an interview published on Thursday that they are open to Kiara being free with Rafe (Drew Starkey) next season – but Jonas is definitely not on board.
“I don’t know how much they think about each other at the end of this season,” said Josh talking to Kiara and Rafe, who have a consistent history.
He explained that after JJ was stabbed by his biological father, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane), during the final moments of the season 4 finale, Kiara went on a downward spiral. (JJ gave Groff the green crown and despite finding the treasure, Groff killed him. As JJ was dying, he told Kiara how much he loved her.)
“I think Kiara is really dedicated to revenge, and so is Rafe,” Josh said. “He has different motives, but he’s closer to the Pogues than ever.”

Sarah (Madelyn Cline) older brother, Rafe, reconciled with the Pogues last time, convincing them to find Groff and avenge JJ’s death. (Earlier in the season, Kiara freed Rafe from under her boat before it sank.)
Despite getting along well with the team, Josh added that Rafe won’t be able to fill JJ’s shoes anytime soon.
“It’s hard to go directly to Rafe and Kiara’s ship as they have been there in the past,” Josh admitted.
Throughout the series, Pogue Kiara has clashed with Kook Rafe about her spoiled upbringing, loyalty to her father over her sister and her tendency to double-cross everyone. However, during season 3 Rafe and Kiara seemed to have sexual chemistry between them when they worked together in Barbados after their kidnapping – and many fans noticed.
“We also know how great Drew and Madison are as players and that they are together,” Josh teased. “So we will definitely explore that relationship.”

When the reporter joked that the “enemies-to-lovers” storyline was “classic for a reason,” Burke teased that Jonas should listen. Jonas, however, is adamant that the audience will always be Jiara.
“I think you’re all in the minority,” Jonas said of Rafe and Kiara’s connection, noting that the group “knows” there are viewers who are unabashed fans of the potential pairing.
While EPs are teasing what will happen to Kiara next, Bailey told Netflix Thudum that JJ’s death was difficult to film and understand about his character going forward.
“This character has lost a lot and everyone will feel it,” he said in an interview published Thursday.
Pankow recalled the difficult day of filming, telling the media that he sought comfort from his co-star, Bailey. “I knew everyone was going to bring their best, and I could feel that from everyone. Bailey and I brought it, and I know we crushed it,” he shared. “It was emotional, but I think deep down, everyone was on the same page … ‘Let’s make an impact.’ And I think we did that.”
Looking ahead to season 5, Bailey said he is aware of the hole JJ’s death will leave between the Pogues. “This is going to rock my character’s world,” he revealed, adding that JJ’s legacy and spirit will always be a symbol of “not giving up and not letting your circumstances affect the way you love.”
Foreign Banks season 4 is streaming on Netflix.
