Terry Matalas Will Recreate the Magic of Netflix: The Collection Show
In 2019, news broke that the Russo brothers wanted to adapt Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: Encounter card game in the Netflix animated series. A few years later, a new creative team with Jeff Kline replaced the Russos, Brandon Routh was cast as the main character Gideon Jura, and….nothing. Making TV shows takes time, but you wouldn’t be wrong to wonder where it’s been.
Good news: it’s still here, and Netflix actually re-announced the series during their Geeked Week event. Instead of the Russos, the very busy Terry Matalas (wa Star Trek: Picard again Vision Quest fame) is now taking the reigns as producer along with executive producer and EP Patrick Osborne (A feast). In a statement, Matalas called it “the perfect dream collaboration with Netflix, Hasbro Entertainment, Wizards of the Coast, and the brilliant Patrick Osborne to bring multiple worlds Magic in broadcasting.”
So Kline’s Routh-starring version was made in full. Routh himself recently revealed this, which is quite shocking Magic fans who thought it was quietly cancelled. It’s not known what this new iteration of the series will be about, but Matalas teased that it will show newcomers “what millions of fans who play every day already know: Magic you are a sandbox that tells a story. […] It is also a powerful reminder that no matter what culture, country, or plane you come from, we can all unite to be heroes together.”
I Magic the series is in production, and more information about it will be revealed later.
