Terence Crawford: “I’m Not Chasing Canelo, I Want The Best Fight”
Terence Crawford says he is not “chasing” Canelo Alvarez, as many people believe is the reason he is campaigning for this fight. Four-division world champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) says he sees Canelo “a very successful fighter” next to him and would like to face him.
It’s Not a Rush, It’s a Challenge
Crawford should push for that fight because it will allow two of North America’s top fighters to fight in a match that can generate excitement, make money, and entertain the public.
Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) has been disappointing fans in the past two years since losing. Dmitry Bivol. People would love to see the Mexican superstar take on an exciting fight with someone they want to see fight. Canelo didn’t want to face David Benavidez or David Morrell when they were both 168 years old.
Has Canelo Lost His Senses?
Those fights would have kept Alvarez at the top, facing the best, but he has shown no desire to test himself. You can tell that Canelo has lost his strength and is showing fear by choosing not to fight the challenges he has done.
The second battle with Gennady Golovkin 2018 was the last time fans saw Alvarez face an opponent where the result was not intended. People forget that the Bivol fight was considered a sure win for Canelo. The Russian striker struggled in the rematch with Craig Richards and looked short against Umar Salamov.
Crawford, 37, would be less of a threat to Canelo compared to Benavidez or Morrell due to his lack of size, strength and age. Still, it’s a great fight that Americans and Mexican fans want.
“I wouldn’t say I’m chasing Canelo. I think that is a broad statement. I just want a chance to fight the best fighter of my generation,” said Terence Crawford on Boxing Social about why he wants to fight Canelo Alvarez.
“He is the most successful fighter in today’s boxing game, except for me. I would just like to fight another big one. That’s all, that’s all. If the fight happens, I think it will be the biggest fight in boxing today,” said Crawford on his reason for wanting to challenge Canelo.
