Taylor Swift Jokes Brock Purdy’s 49ers Made Him Depressed at the Super Bowl
Taylor Swiftlike many Kansas City Chiefs fans, he was “very depressed” during Super Bowl LVIII.
Swift, 35, recalled his experience at the NFL tournament earlier this year while visiting patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on Thursday, December 12.
“I have no problem Brock Purdy“Swift teased one young fan, adding, “He put me through a lot last February, so I was really depressed for a second. Everything went well.”
Purdy, 24, is the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, who faced the Chiefs for the chance to win the Lombardi Trophy in February. Swift, a Chiefs fan since her boyfriend, Travis Kelcetight end for the Missouri team.
Swift and Kelce, 35, have been dating for more than a year, often supporting each other at concerts and NFL games alike. While talking to a pediatric patient, he admitted that Kelce is a great athlete.

“I love Travis now,” said a fan.
Swift replied emphatically, “Yeah, me too! That’s an absolute yes to that one,” before asking if Kelce was the kid’s “favorite player.”
“Yes, he too Patrick [Mahomes],” replied the fan referring to the Chiefs defender.
“Good answer,” replied Swift. “You do this.”
Swift met with many fans (and their equally Swiftie parents) on Thursday, signing copies of her Eras Tour Book and taking selfies. At one point, he joked and held up a Chiefs rally towel that read, “Go Taylor’s boyfriend.”
Admittedly, Swift wasn’t a football fan until she started dating Kelce — and now, she’s designing games. (No pop star game has been added to the Chiefs’ rotation yet.)
“Football is amazing, it turns out,” Swift said TIME in his 2023 Person of the Year profile. “I’ve been missing it all my life.”
At every Chiefs game Swift attended, fan photos captured her cheering on Kelce and his teammates. At the Super Bowl in February, he brought a roster that included A’s Blake Lively, Lana Del Rey, Ice Spice and many more to complete the Missouri team.
Purdy, however, had no qualms about Swift’s focus on the opposition.
“When it comes down to it, Brock, and it’s almost the end of the fourth quarter, are you willing to disappoint Taylor Swift?” the sportscaster asked Purdy before the big game.
Smiling, Purdy replied, “Yeah, I’ll leave it at that.”
Purdy almost got his wish as Super Bowl LVIII came down to the wire — and overtime. In the end, the Chiefs won 25-22. Swift celebrated with Kelce on the court, marking the moment with a sweet kiss on the sideline.
