Tank Davis Warns Lamont Roach On Social Media

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis started the morning, building his reputation for his next fight with Lamont Roach on December 14th in Houston. Earlier today, Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) warned Roach on X to “not talk too much” when he got a little tight-lipped.

Tank should start fake talking now because the fans are turned off by this mismatch and see it for what it is: another cherry-pick for Gervonta at the PPV. To sell this battle, Tank will need to work overtime, create Marketing hype like WWE for being a theater and going to the top.

He’s going to have to come up with some acting chops to make it match the match so that the fans are engaged enough to want to buy in bulk on the PPV. If Tank does his way with the promotion and comes with daily drama elements, this could do well. There will still be a complete mismatch, but it will sell.

Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) is moving up in weight to super featherweight, where he recently came off a 12-round split decision win over Hector Luis Garcia. This is the same guy Tank knocked out in nine rounds in January 2023. Hector is Roach’s best win of his 10-year career.

Roach’s other big wins were over 40-year-old Jonathan Oquendo and 35-year-old Rene Alvarado. He lost to Jamel Herring in 2019 and never avenged the loss.

It looks like Tank Davis can’t rely on David Benavidez to fight his undercard and bring PPV buys. He may face David Morrell in January on their card, which would do well on PPV. That’s a much better battle than Tank vs. Roach.
