‘Surreal Elderhood’ uses OpenAI’s text-to-video model, Sora

Katsukokoiso.AI is a project from professional photographer Eugenio Marongiu, an alpha tester for the OpenAI text-to-video model Sora. Marongiu used an unreleased Sora model to create a piece titled “Surreal Elderhood,” which aims to balance absurdity with surreal reality.

Previous users of Sora have pointed out that the program can be tricky to interact with and cannot be trusted to produce the final product. And of course all technology is controversial – but that hasn’t stopped artists like Marongiu from trying.

Marongiu said Sora helped speed up his photo-based creative process, “which involves creating pictures and animating them afterwards. With Sora, I was finally able to fully embrace text-to-video generation…” He also added that “The most time-consuming part, as always, was identifying, testing, and planning. In total, it took about two days. “
