Surace KOs Munguia: He Did What Canelo Couldn’t

Jaime Munguia was surprisingly knocked out by Bruno Surace, a fighter who scored just four knockouts, on Saturday night in the sixth round at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico.

Canelo Comparison

What made this beating of Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) so impressive was that he had to stand up in the second round to return to KO Munguia with one punch in the sixth round.

What does that say about Canelo Alvarez? Even he couldn’t knock out Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) when they fought on May 4 in Las Vegas. Canelo defeated Mughnui via a 12-round unanimous decision, and he didn’t come close to knocking him out.

Losing in front of his home fans in Tijuana, Mexico, must have been a bitter pill for Nukullukunia to swallow because they all saw what happened. His popularity will decline in Mexico now.

Berlanga’s plans were foiled

Edgar Berlanga took the news of Munguia’s loss very seriously. He had been hoping to fight him next in the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico on PPV. Berlanga complained that Munguia mixed the bag, which is a correct statement.

Surace was going to send Berlanga off because of the way he fought tonight. He would do his job as easily as Munguia did.

A fight between them on PPV will not sell, as both guys will lose. It would be impossible to sell, especially if one of them didn’t even try to win but just survived.

All New York-born Berlanga has to do is call Surace, and if he can’t find him, fight Caleb Plant. There is no Berlanga bag. Canelo won’t fight him again, and neither will Ukulele.
