Sunny Hostin surprised by Kamala Harris’ response to her ‘lap’ question about differences with Biden

“The View” host Sunny Hostin said Tuesday that she was surprised by Vice President Kamala Harris’ response to a question last month about what she would have done differently from President Biden in her only term.

Harris’ now-infamous response that “there’s nothing that comes to mind” he could have done differently from his boss surprised political observers, in his struggle to distance himself from the unpopular Biden administration on the campaign trail. Many scholars and reports have identified this period as a turning point in Harris’s campaign.

Asked by “The View” host Brian Teta during the show’s “Behind the Table” podcast about whether he “personally called Kamala Harris out on the election with her question,” Hostin said he wished he had that much power, because he would have “investigated it . ” another way.

“I followed because I was surprised by the answer. Look, I think it wasn’t so much about the question, but it was actually more about the answer,” Hostin said. “The reason I followed up was because that wasn’t a gotcha question. That was a setup, really.”

Hostin, an ardent Harris supporter who predicted he would win “with a blowout,” said it gave Harris an opportunity to speak to people who are concerned that the vice president is “an agent of change.”

“I thought he was going to say I’m going to build on the wins we’ve had, and I had a list of winning outfits in my head, and he didn’t answer that, he said nothing comes to my mind,” Hostin said, noting how “loyal” he is to President Biden, who left the race in July and nominated VP his nomination for the Democratic Alliance.

Hostin said he would not comment on whether Harris gave the right or wrong answer.

“I will just say that I was surprised by the answer because it was a question that could really help him, a question that could have been a change,” he said.

Democratic strategist James Carville said Harris’ failed campaign could be chalked up to that time on “The View.”

“I think if this campaign is cut short, we’re in a country where the songs are 65% wrong,” he said on the “Bulwark Podcast.” “The country wants something different. And he asked, as is often the case, from a friendly audience, on ‘The View,’ ‘How can you be different from Biden?’ That’s the question you’re there to answer, of course, that’s the question you’re looking for.

The Trump campaign was reportedly pleased with Harris’ response, and the clip quickly became the subject of national ads.
