Suicide Pod Operator Found With Disturbing Marks, Company Executive In Custody

Dr. Florian Willet, who runs a death rights organization called “Last Resort,” has been in custody of Swiss authorities since the death of an unnamed woman who chose to take her own life under the company’s care in September. Self-administered euthanasia takes place inside the Sarco suicide pod, which is intended to provide the user with a quick, painless, and dignified death. It was revealed that the user had strangulation marks on his neck, however, leading some to call foul play.

Death with Dignity

Sarco’s suicide pod is the brainchild of Dr. Philip Nitschke, who founded the “death with dignity” movement called Exit International. His goal was to create a “painless and independent” way for the terminally ill to end his life in peace. His invention was put to use for the first time last month when “The Last Resort” used a 3D printer to create a pod and allow a now-deceased person to end their life in it.

The autopsy is said to include details of “strangulation marks on the woman’s neck,” which is why Swiss prosecutor Peter Sticher decided to “broaden the scope of the investigation to include murder.” But although the prosecutor has so far refused to publicly confirm any of the reports, a source close to “The Last Resort” has offered plausible explanations for the marks that do not involve murder.

An independent source said the strangulation symptoms may have come from a patient suffering from skull base osteomyelitis. This rare disease can be fatal if left untreated.

Abnormal Symptoms Found in the Body

“Last Resort” has not officially given a statement about the alleged strangulation other than “without a full autopsy report, (we) cannot comment on the ‘suspected’ ‘injuries’ to the neck of the first Sarco user. .” An autopsy was performed on September 23, and the agency maintains that it was kept secret from the company and its lawyers. But “The Last Resort” insists that the suicide pod was used in accordance with Swiss law.

Not much public information about the end user of the suicide pod has been released. It has been confirmed that the deceased, whose name has been withheld, is a 64-year-old woman from the United States with two grown children, both of whom support her mother’s right to end her life in this way. It was also revealed that the woman suffered from a rare, incurable autoimmune disease.

A Controversial Device

Sarco’s suicide pod can be created using a 3D printer. This million-dollar development enables the user to enter the pod and, when ready, press a button that releases the nitrogen capsule. Once the capsule has exploded, the oxygen in the pod is rapidly reduced to a fraction, while CO2 levels are kept at a very low rate.

The user experiences a process called hypoxia inside the suicide pod, causing him to lose consciousness immediately. So their brains are deprived of oxygen when they are outside, and death takes place quickly and painlessly. Although it was the first time a Sarco pod had been used on a human, it is reported that every eight days, a British citizen travels to Switzerland for some form of assisted suicide.
