Before it was announced that Star Trek would get its own attraction, theme parks sold “4D” attractions such as those that mixed reality with things that could happen on screen or in rides.
For example, Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney World has a sequence where a character in a 3D short film shoots water at the viewer as real squirts in the audience.
It is not yet clear how this Trek will start a for the fifth time dimension (time travel, perhaps?), but you can probably expect, at the very least, a Star Tours-style 3D screen and 4D moving seats to simulate a ship hurtling through space.
