Spotify adds support for music videos in 85 more markets

Music streaming company Spotify said today it is testing music videos for top users in 85 more markets. The company began testing video in limited markets in March.

Spotify initially rolled out music videos in beta in 11 countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya. Earlier this year, Egypt was added to the list.

The company did not specify that these 85 new markets include the US It is the biggest market of the streaming giant but it has been left in the first set of regions where music videos are available. Despite the new expansion, the music video feature remains limited to paid users.

The service’s music videos are available for mobile and desktop. Users can easily switch between audio and video by converting. Initially, if you switch from audio to video, the video will start playing from the beginning. The company has now made the transition easier.

Spotify also adds video references next to track lyrics so you can easily see them in search results.

Users can open their phone in landscape mode to switch to full-screen video. The company said listeners who discover a song and then watch a music video on the app are 34% more likely, on average, to stream the song again the following week.

Part of YouTube’s appeal as a music streaming service has been its support for music videos. Spotify is now trying to get fans who love music videos to move.
