Southern Charm Recap: Shep Confronts Craig, Austen Over Blackout Drama

Michelle Watt/Bravo(3)Shave Rose grilled Craig Conover again Austen Kroll during the Southern Charm season 10 premiere after they ditched him following his BravoCon cancellation.
“What happened in Las Vegas was very troubling, it wasn’t intentional,” Shep, 44, admitted on the Thursday, Dec. 5, episode of the Bravo series. “Something had to change. I went to Costa Rica because of this mental issue to see for myself and check myself and it was very powerful.”
The reality star recalled a blackout during BravoCon in November 2023, which he talked about earlier in season 9. Southern Charm reunion, shown in January. At the time, Shep said he was at a “crossroads” with his rebellion.
Craig, 35, and Austen, 37, revealed that they did not attend Shep’s come to Jesus powwow with close friends in Charleston to talk about his drinking problem.
When Craig and Austen told Shep when they met that they still loved him, Shep admitted in the season 10 premiere that he felt abandoned by his assets.
“After Vegas I reached out to Austen and Craig, they just beat me up. I want them to understand how much they hurt me,” Shep said in a confessional taped in March. “Because when I have trouble saying, ‘No, thanks,’ it’s more than anything I’ve ever known about friendship.”
He added: “My relationship with these boys has kept me up every night and morning. It was like a lot of anger and pain.”
Craig and Austen agree to go to Shep’s parents’ ranch in Boykin, South Carolina, before the Carolina Cup race to talk about their broken friendship. “I want to have a relationship with Shep again. I miss him,” Craig told Austen as they drove to the farm. “We see each other in the gym and it’s top quality. It’s not the same anymore.”
Once the young men came to Shep’s house and he sat down and did not close his mouth because of the pain he was feeling. “After Vegas, I was like, ‘I think I’m out of control and I don’t know what’s going on inside.’ And if anyone can offer help, guidance, support or correction that is cruel to us, right?” Said Shep. “And you didn’t do that. That hurts more than you can.”
Craig noted that Shep’s feelings were “right” but pointed out, “Is—what you did in Vegas, you chose to f-ed up to put yourself in that situation.” Austen agreed, saying that Shep “doubled down in Charleston,” causing her and Craig to reevaluate their friendship with him.

“It was after nobody was talking to me,” said Shep, asking, “Don’t you understand? This is friendship.”
He reminded Austen that they “used to talk” two or three times a day before the bar drama. “Craig, come on, we know each other [for] 10 years,” Shep added, to which Craig replied, “But it affected my career. Absorb me.”
Craig told the cameras that he “never closed the door on Shep until BravoCon” because he “knew right away” that Shep was “a mess” when he was on stage. Southern Charm the panel. “I am a business owner. “I will not be associated with Shep’s bad behavior,” Craig admitted.

Alan Smith/BravoShep was surprised by Craig’s reaction to his actions. “You have to be kidding me. “The list of things that Craig has pulled off over the years is pretty extensive,” Shep told the cameras. “For Craig to play the victim because of my actions, it really doesn’t bother me.”
At the table, Austen admitted to Shep that she didn’t know if she was “real” about wanting to change after BravoCon or if it was just talk. “At that moment, I made a choice,” Austen revealed, telling herself, “You’ve got to set a—a boundary right now if this is going to be Shep’s behavior.”
Shep admitted, “I just didn’t know I was such a par.” I mean, this is all news to me,” saying, “It sounds to me like you don’t see the relationship the way I see it.”
Craig disagreed, arguing that Shep “f—ed up and you need to never do that again” to fully support him.
Shep Rose commented on a new episode of Southern Charm that she doesn’t know if pal Craig Conover’s long-distance relationship is working out. “You’re not ‘you’ Craig. You’re a free guy because your f-king girlfriend lives in New York,” Shep, 43, said on the Thursday, Dec. 7, episode of the Bravo series. […]
“I heard about another bad night you had from New York [following the reunion],” Craig said, and Shep agreed that it was true. “What kind of person do you think I am and I’m going to stick around?” Craig asked.
Shep replied, “You’ve never stuck,” but Craig asserted “years.” Shep told Craig that he’s “not a money giver,” but he wanted Craig to “give another ride” about getting sober for him. (Craig cut out alcohol a few years ago, which he says “changed everything” for him.)
Sometimes you need to withdraw from people, that’s just the way it is,” Craig admitted to Shep, who called his friends and said that “connecting” would be nice. “Even if that lunch was, ‘This is how we feel and we’re going back,’ it would have been something I would have used,” Shep explained.

Austen replied, “You’re right,” and Craig agreed that they should have told him they were taking a break “instead of just ghosting you.”
Austen later told the cameras, “With Shep, sometimes I’m like, ‘You’re a bastard and you’re a badass,'” noting that she previously had to keep Shep from getting arrested on King Street. But at the same time, I don’t completely agree with the way Craig would set the limits, which is very strict.” Austen concluded, “At the end of the day, I—I love the boy.”
The conversation ended with Shep saying, “Let’s take a break,” and Craig and Austen agreed. Craig then calmed down by accidentally breaking one of Shep’s chairs.
Before the start of the season, Craig told exclusively Us Weekly that Shep’s ups and downs with drinking will be “a big part of this season.” He teased in June, “I think the viewer and us as friends — we’re basically like family — we have a lot to look forward to in Shep’s future.”
