Sonic 3’s Reputation Won’t Be What Years Of Edgy Memes Made It To Be

We are very close to the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and, more importantly, seeing the end of Sega’s “Shadow Year” with Keanu Reeve’s version of the fan-favorite speedster. While the internet has surprisingly made Sonic’s rival as the second coming of physical beauty, Sonic’s The Oscar-nominated director wants fans to prepare for an original story that goes beyond the many memes the character has collected over the years.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jeff Fowler recounted how his work has always been connected to it. Sonic, from the animator in his games with Blur Studios to the director of his Hollywood body. As such, he assured fans that—as a fan who contributed to Shadow’s standalone 2005 video game—he loves them dearly. Although his words of condolence came with an acknowledgment that Shadow is more than the sum of his cruel memes.

“‘Edginess’ maybe isn’t the right word, but there was a new element that just made the world of Sonic feel a little more exciting, a little more dangerous,” Fowler told EW. “I think that’s exactly what Shadow did for this movie.”

While fans already know Shadow as a gun-toting, motorcycle-riding guy with sharp edges that would make any self-respecting 13-year-old boy say “Cool!”, Fowler wanted to clarify his origins. in the middle Sonic 3 it will go as expected by the fans while considering that the film should still be a family film. “That’s the challenge of these movies,” Fowler said. “It has to take what has come before in terms of video games and comics and all that. How do we take the essence of what the fans love and combine it with this treatment of the film we’ve created?”

He continued. “We really respect what the fans expect to see and what they like about the actor. We also know the times and the right way to handle that kind of image in a family film. I think we ended up in a really good place. I think fans will watch this movie and really appreciate Shadow and Maria. A lot of care and love has gone into telling Shadow’s story and giving fans the best movie version of the character imaginable.”

Well, time will tell Sonic 3 it depends entirely on the memes that imagine Shadow as John Wick or if it will show some infamous scene about his origin. Either way, the film will live up to the hype Sonic fans for years to come.
