Social media reacts to Trump ‘dominating world leaders’ over Macron’s handshake during a meeting in France

Social media users went into a frenzy over President-elect Trump’s handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron at their meeting in Paris on Saturday.

Trump traveled to France to attend the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, his first international trip since winning the 2024 presidential election. Before the event, Trump met with Macron, and the two shook hands in a gesture that quickly went viral on the Internet.

“President Trump is back to managing world leaders with his handshake,” another user, George, wrote on the X site. “Macron will need a hand massage after all that twisting and pulling of Trump.”

“President Trump shakes French President Emmanuel Macron with the strongest handshake I’ve ever seen,” said analyst Drew Hernandez. “We’re back a lot.”

Colin Rugg wrote, “7 years later and the handshake battle continues between Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron.”

At a meeting in 2017, during Trump’s first term, the two world leaders shook hands for 29 seconds and were seen tugging back and forth as they walked with their wives.

“The Trump-Macron handshake is exciting,” said writer John Lefevre on the X site. “Because it happened twice. And you know Macron was told to prepare and maybe practice and then rule.”

Trump’s handshakes with world leaders have spanned many years, including when he shook hands with Russian President Putin at the G-20 Summit in 2019.
