‘Smile 2’ is off to a great start at the box office

Horror continues to dominate the box office this October, with new releases Smile 2 taking in $9.4 million from its October 18 opening day and previews. Variety says that’s more than the original SmileIt’s $8.2 million.

The pop star’s sequel — which Mashable’s Monica Castillo called “even funnier and funnier this time around” in her review — isn’t the only horror film to round out the top five this week. Gore-fest The Terrorifier 3which topped the week last week, is poised to move into third place after earning $2.9 million on Friday.

Meanwhile, Dreamworks’ Wild Robot continues to grow stronger the second time around, and may cross the $100 million domestic mark throughout the weekend, just as the film goes digital. The top five exits are there We live in a Timestarring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, and Beetlejuice juiceon track to become the fourth highest-grossing film of 2024 in the US.
