Six Americans reached the last eight in Auckland

Have you heard of Americans in Paris? What about Americans in Auckland? Six of them, actually.

This year’s ASB Classic qualifiers are 75 percent stars and stripes after Team USA claimed the day’s medal in Auckland last night.



Friday’s final eight will feature two All-American clashes, with Bernarda Pera facing Robin Montgomerywhile Places to stay in Alycia Parks will take Katie Volynets. In addition, it is top-seeded Madison Keys will play with Denmark and DC native Clara Tauson Haily Baptiste she will face Naomi Osaka in the seventh seed.

The 23-year-old Baptiste saved a match point to beat Great Britain’s Jodie Burrage, 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(6), to reach her first WTA quarterfinals. Montgomery, 20, defeated Nao Hibino, 6-2, 6-2. Parks reached her first hard-court quarterfinal with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Greet Minnen, while Keys needed just 46 minutes to beat Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian, 6-1, 6-2 .

All four quarterfinals will take place on Friday night in Auckland (Thursday night in the US).
