SimplyMiles: Earn more American miles and Loyalty Points

Within the American Airlines AAdvantage program, travelers often look for ways to earn American miles to use award flights. But many travelers are looking for ways to earn Loyalty Points toward a specific American Airlines tier or milestone Loyalty Point Rewards.

Fortunately, US residents with a Mastercard can earn American miles and Loyalty Points on most everyday purchases through the SimplyMiles program. Here’s what you need to know.

What is SimplyMiles?

The SimplyMiles program is similar to Amex Offers, Chase Offers and Citi Merchant Offers in that you sign up to give money and earn rewards. But when you sign up for a specific credit card merchant offer, SimplyMiles offers let you pay with any linked Mastercard once you’ve signed up for the offer.

To sign up for SimplyMiles, go to the SimplyMiles website and click the “Join” link in the top right corner. Log into your American AAdvantage account and add at least one Mastercard to your SimplyMiles account to get started. However, I recommend adding all of your MasterCards to your SimplyMiles account so you don’t miss out on earning opportunities.

Once you’ve signed up, sometimes go to the SimplyMiles website to check your offers. Some offers offer miles based on your spending, while others award a fixed amount when you spend a certain amount with the merchant.

While viewing your offers, add any you want to use to your account by clicking “Apply offers.” However, some offers can only be used online or in store, while other offers require you to click a specific link or are only valid for certain purchases. So be sure to read the terms of each offer before purchasing.

I tend to have a variety of offerings from food delivery services to wine services and technology companies. You’ll see all the offers you’ve already used near the bottom of the screen.

You will typically earn Advantage miles and Loyalty Points when you make eligible purchases with a card added to your SimplyMiles account; some offers may only offer bonus miles or Loyalty Points, though. Then, each time you make a qualifying purchase, you’ll receive an email with “Thank you for using your SimplyMiles offer” in the subject line.

You can also check your benefits by clicking “My Job” near the top of the web page. Once the page has loaded, scroll down to the “Activity Details” section and expand “SimplyMiles transaction history” to see your most recent benefits.

Miles will appear in your account within 10 to 15 business days of your purchase. However, it can sometimes take up to 30 business days for your paycheck to be posted.

Earning American Airlines miles and Loyalty Points through the SimplyMiles program is great. The terms and conditions state: “Offers cannot be combined or stacked with offers from other programs.” However, the offer is sometimes still outstanding.

For example, you may be able to stack all of the following earning methods on a single purchase made with a MasterCard registered to SimplyMiles:

  • SimplyMiles
  • Shopping portal rewards
  • Credit card rewards

Of course, for this triple stack to work, the merchant needs to participate in SimplyMiles (without the requirement to use a specific link) and the shopping portal. For example, let’s imagine that I wanted to buy accessories from Dell Technologies.

Currently, the SimplyMiles site will give me 2 miles and 2 Loyalty Points per dollar on up to three purchases with Dell Technologies using a linked Mastercard. However, you cannot earn more than 3,485 miles and 3,485 Loyalty Points with this SimplyMiles offer.

I can use the registered Citi AAdvantage card to earn 1 mile per dollar on my Dell Technologies purchases. And the Advantage eShopping site will give me 3.5 miles per dollar on Dell Technologies accessories.

You can also try bagging a Citi Merchant Offers deal. However, you can no longer stack multiple SimplyMiles offers with multiple Citi Merchant Offers. For example, you’ll often see a merchant disappear from SimplyMiles when you sign up for a Citi Merchant Offer. And if you add SimplyMiles offers to your account before signing up for the Citi Merchant Offer, your SimplyMiles merchant offer will usually be removed. So you may want to avoid signing up for conflicting Citi Merchant Offers if you’d like to earn with SimplyMiles.

Bottom line

There is no shortage of ways to earn Advantage miles and loyalty points. From the Advantage eShopping portal to American Airlines credit cards, you don’t have to fly frequently to earn American Airlines miles and status.

The SimplyMiles program is a great tool if you’re looking to earn more miles and Loyalty Points when you shop. From gas stations to delivery services and luggage, you’ll find a variety of merchants on the SimplyMiles website. However, offers are often added, so you’ll want to check for new offers every week to maximize your earnings.
