Shifting Gear Trailer: Tim Allen Lays Down the Law with Kat Dennings
The ABCs Changing Gears proves this Tim AllenIt’s a sitcom world — and we all live in it.
The official trailer for the upcoming show premiered on Monday, December 30 Us for Allen’s character Matt, a widowed father who reconnects with his estranged daughter Riley (Kat Dennings).
“I’m crawling home because I have no money and I need a place to live until I figure out what the rest of my life is like,” Riley admitted before Matt agreed. “Really? Because I haven’t changed much!”
The show has its ups and downs – especially when Riley’s two children arrive. “Can we try talking to each other like sane adults?” Riley asks as Matt laughs, “Have you been watching the news lately? That’s not a thing anymore.”
Matt makes it clear that he has “a certain way of doing things,” which often puts him and Riley at odds.
“If I want to do something you don’t like, you just look up and say, ‘Okay,'” Matt says later in the clip. Meanwhile, Riley replies, “I’m not sure you understand how bridges work.”
In addition to Dennings, 38, and Allen, 71, Changing Gears and the stars Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins again Barrett Margolis.
Before returning to the sitcom world, Allen became a fan-favorite TV dad for his role as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on the ABC sitcom. Home Improvementwhich started from 1991 to 1999. He later played Mike Baxter for nine seasons Last Man Standing.
“The word that keeps me alive is, ‘gratitude.’ I love what I do. “I get more joy out of making people happy than anything in terms of money,” Allen said to himself Us Weekly in 2020. “I love the live audience we have. I tell them every night, ‘This is old school stuff, where television and broadcasting started.’ I don’t know the future, but this [show] it is rare.”

“We did the same thing as we did Home Improvement. It’s all about relationships — we don’t get into topical stuff. I love the fact that we respect and make fun of – at the same time – marriage, institution, children, children, people. But in the same way, we respect it. We don’t play with that.”
Dennings, meanwhile, played Max on the CBS sitcom 2 Broken Girls from 2011 to 2017. Changing Gears and marks Scott’s third series regular role after starring in it Welcome to Flatch again Lethal Weapon.
Changing Gears debuts on ABC on Wednesday, January 8, at 8 pm ET before airing the next day on Hulu.
