Serhii Bohachuk Volunteers to Fight Sebastian Fundora in March

Serhii Bohachuk has committed to voting for WBC and WBO Junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora in his next fight in March. Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) has seen two options for his next fight after being rejected by the World Boxing Organization last week.

Originally, Fundora was scheduled to defend against Errol Spence (28-1, 22 KOs), but the WBO chose not to sanction the fight. Their reasons were that Spence had not fought in 1.5 years. unranked he never fought at 154, and was never ranked in the WBO’s top 15.

Fundora’s team reportedly wanted to use Joey Spencer (19-1, 11 KOs), but he wasn’t ranked in the top 15, so he wasn’t good or bad.

A Dangerous Challenge

Former WBC 154-lb interim champion Bohachuk is ranked #8 in the WBO, which would make him eligible for Fundora to use as an opponent for his fight on March 30. The only problem is that Fundora’s management may not want to use Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs), because he is dangerous .

While Fundora proved he can hit a slugger last year in Tim Tszyu, Bohachuk is a different story. He’s not a one-shot loader like Tszyu. He throws heavy punches in the same style as Artur Beterbiev, and is good at fighting inside. He can generate a lot of energy internally. Tszyu could not do that.

If the Fundora team wants to move down the WBO’s top 15 list, they may not be happy for Sebastian to fight someone like Charles Conwell or Xander Zayas. These are two fights, as it would be if he were to fight Bohachuk.

If Fundora feels he is ready, he should fight Bohachuk because he is free and willing to fight him. That’s part of the battle.
