Many climatologists see the response to Hurricane Milton as an extension of long-standing climate change denial. For years, as climatologists have pointed to warmer oceans as the cause of more frequent, stronger storms there has been a flurry of backlash against the project. However, with conspiracy theorists painting the profession as a group of liars, that backlash has escalated into harassment and threats.
Of course, the climate control conspiracy theory is only part of the growing conspiracy theory in America. Conspiracy theories, such as the massive Q-Anon and Pizzagate conspiracies, have gained mainstream momentum, as well as political champions, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr in recent years. Hurricane Milton has now turned those who believe in these theories against all meteorology.
