Schofield Sr. He predicts a hit on the tank Davis
Floyd Schofield’s father, Floyd Sr., says his son will beat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis when he gets the chance to challenge him for his WBA lightweight title. Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) is breathing down Tank’s neck at #2 in the WBA, and it’s only a matter of time before the World Boxing Association orders the fight.

Schofield, 22, believes Tank will vacate his WBA title and move up to 140 rather than continue fighting him. If that happens, Schofield says he’ll be fighting a big name.
When #3 WBA Edwin De Los Santos was mentioned as a possible contender, Schofield smiled. De Los Santos will be next in line unless he doesn’t want to risk it. If that happens, it would be #4 Andy Cruz, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist from Cuba, who repeatedly beat Keyshawn Davis in the Novices.
“Everybody’s got an opinion, but he’s just a strong, regular guy,” Schofield said on Cigar Talk about Gervonta Davis. “Take one of those fighters you can get lucky and get out of him, but even in that 12th round, you have to watch them.”
“The difference we’re going to beat is *** out of the tank,” said Schofield Sr.
Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) can’t fight Schofield because he fights a lot of PBC fighters, and if he chooses to face non-PBC guys, they always lose. Schofield can be a threat to Tank. So, he won’t get a chance to face him.
That means if the WBA orders the fight, Tank will, as Schofield predicted, move up to 140, where he makes more money in that division. There are more potential fights for Tank at light welterweight than 135. Shakur Stevenson is the only popular fighter left, but he is likely to lose to William Zepeda in February. So, that would be the last one that works [read: easy] intended to combat Tank money.
“If that fight happens, I want my players, as Schofield said about the fight between him, who was fighting for the WBA belt at the highest level after Tank’s exit. “I don’t know, bro,” Schofield said when asked if he would fight for Edwin De Los Santos’ WBA #3 belt after Tank relinquishes it.
Schofield will need to beat De Los Santos to beat him because he is one of the biggest boxers in the 135 lb division. His boxing skills are average, but his power is top notch and he is probably the second best in the division behind Tank. If Schofield is beaten by De Los Santos, he will sleep.
Talking to Shakur Stevenson
He said: ‘What weight are you fighting? Man, you hit hard,’” Schofield said of what Shakur Stevenson said to him after the breakup. “Come on, bro. You know.”
As Schofield said, the feud with Shakur happened in 2020, when he was just 17 years old, and he was giving him big problems. You can only imagine what Schofield would do to Shakur now if he got the chance to fight him, but that’s if Stevenson can make it through training camp without needing to cancel the fight due to his hand strain.
Shakur’s hands can’t hold up in a light level fight. Ever since Newark native Shakur turned 135 in 2023, he’s been breaking down like an old car. He’s completely useless at lightweight since moving up. Stevenson needs to move back to 130 or 126, where they don’t hit as hard, and life isn’t that hard.
“The thing is, Shakur was in school,” Schofield Sr. said.
“His excuse was that he was calculating data. He was allowing me to remove my fists. That’s a lie. “He didn’t throw more than 20 punches in that entire time,” Schofield said, responding to being told that Shakur started running after he hit him with a body shot in the second round.
