I New York Giants announced Friday that they had agreed to cut Jones after the quarterback requested his release days after the benching of third-string quarterback and fan favorite Tommy DeVito.

“Daniel was a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. The way he handled the situation yesterday proves that. We are all disappointed in the way things turned out. We respect Daniel very much and thank him very much. We wish him the best in the future.”
The move didn’t come as a surprise as Jones has continued to struggle since signing a four-year, $160 million contract through 2023. In six seasons with the team, Jones was able to lead the Giants to a singles victory.
With Jones on the way, former teammate Saquon Barkley was asked about his thoughts on the decision on Friday.

“I won’t talk too much about that, I have been in contact with him. Our friendship has always been close throughout this process of my being here. It worries me to see how everything is going for him over there.”
“I’ve got nothing but good things to say about him. I don’t think you’re going to really find a lot of bad things to say about him. But it’s the NFL. Hopefully, wherever he ends up next, he’ll find a guy to come in and work.”
