Do Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni rally in early form to seal a place at the Nitto ATP Finals?
The two Argentines on Saturday defeated Adam Pavlasek and Jean-Julien Rojer 4-6, 7-5. 10-8 to reach the Rolex Shanghai Masters final. Gonzalez and Molteni’s 99-minute victory was based on a rock-solid performance, and they finished the match with 83 percent (40/48) points after their first serve, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
After arriving in Shanghai having lost seven of their last 12 tour-level matches, Gonzalez and Molteni will be entering their second ATP Masters 1000 final after lifting the 2023 Cincinnati title. They have so far risen four places to tenth in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings thanks to their run in China, where they boosted their hopes of a second appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals after their first appearance in Turin last year.
Waiting for Gonzalez and Molteni in Sunday’s championship game inside the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena will be Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic. The two teams have split their previous two Lexus ATP Head2Head meetings so far, with Koolhof/Mektic winning in January in Auckland before Gonzalez/Molteni avenged that loss in April in Barcelona.
