Queer-founded brand discovery platform Famm launches LinkedIn for the LGBTQ+ community

Famm, a cross-brand discovery platform, was created by bi-POC couple Cat Perez and Marianna Di Regolo to help users discover LGBTQ-owned businesses. We are now launching a new social networking app for LGBTQ+ professionals and business owners to connect and collaborate.

Famm Connect, now available on iOS and Android devices, includes common features such as a server to share and receive posts, direct messages, and a section to manage and cultivate connections. What sets it apart, however, is its emphasis on creating a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ professionals to authentically engage.

The launch of a new social networking app designed for LGBTQ+ professionals is both timely and important. LGBTQ+ people often face discrimination, microaggressions, or bias in professional environments, and it can be difficult to find support in mainstream networks that don’t address their specific challenges. Also, they may not feel comfortable disclosing their gender or gender identity on platforms like LinkedIn for fear that it could hurt their career prospects.

Famm Connect aims to provide a better alternative to traditional forums, giving users a space to easily find others who understand their experiences and challenges while allowing them to celebrate their identity rather than hide it.

“It’s very clear that there is not a lot of representation when it comes to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, founders, and business owners,” Perez told TechCrunch. “We have to look at how we can support each other when it comes to building our own businesses, grow them, and look at how we can use our dollars in money for the main businesses. We have to consult each other, especially now.”

While the main function of the app is straightforward, one feature that stands out is its “Open on” tags. These tags can be added to a user’s profile to indicate their purposes for using the app, such as openness to coffee chats, training opportunities, volunteering, and more. This ensures that when users reach out to others, they do so with intent rather than simply spamming them.

With approximately 1.4 million LGBTQ-owned businesses operating in the US, Famm also plans to list businesses to advertise their products and services. Perez points out that it is difficult for business owners to advertise on major platforms, as they offer a service or product that uses certain words that may be flagged or banned. Business listings are currently free, but the platform will soon introduce premium business profiles for $20 per month or $200 per year.

Other features that make up Famm include a section dedicated to personal networking events and a list of jobs and sponsored posts.

The app is free to download. It operates on an invite-only basis and allows unlimited referrals.
