Regis Prograis thinks Devin Haney isn’t washed up, but says he won’t beat Ryan Garcia. He recommends that Haney not rematch Kingry unless he is ready “trying to withdraw money.”
It would be crazy for Devin to fight Garcia again without one setup to rebuild and see where he is. emotionally. Kingry had Haney all over him, knocking him down six times in their fight last April, despite only having the referee count three. The popular Southern California native hurt Devin whenever he wanted, and it looked so easy.
Tuning is required
If Dev tunes a soft puncher, he will find out if he can still take a decent headshot without hitting the deck face first. He could regain the confidence he may have lost that night against Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Haney’s decision to serve Ryan’s one-year suspension led many fans to believe that he was waiting for him to fight again. Is Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) waiting for Garcia to land that lucrative crossover, or is he looking for some time off after the beating he took in his 12-round majority decision loss on April 20?
If there’s any fear on Haney’s part about whether he can beat even a writer, it makes sense for him to sit back and wait for Kingry’s one-year suspension to expire in April. The last thing Devin needs is to pull out a vague ham and egger and lose forever in the Garcia rematch.
“He’s not shot, but I don’t think he’s going to beat Ryan,” said Regis Prograis speaking to YSM Sports Media about Devin Haney’s rematch with Ryan Garcia. “He got his a** song by Ryan, and that’s always going to be there. No matter what Bill says, that will always be on his mind. ‘Yeh he really hit me.’
“I don’t think they are, and I don’t think they should fight Ryan next. I think they should do a tune to see, and see what he’s like [Haney] do and go from there. It was the only way they could do that [fight Ryan next] when they try to withdraw money, they get a crazy amount of money,” said Prograis.
