Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch many development projects from Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a number of development programmes, including a multi-national airport scheme worth over Rs 6,100 crore, during his visit to Varanasi on Sunday, his office said.
The PMO in a statement that Modi will also inaugurate the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital, in the holy city. It will provide comprehensive consultation and treatment for various eye conditions.
Modi will lay the foundation stone for the expansion of the runway at the airports and the construction of a new terminal building and associated works of the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, worth about Rs 2,870 crore.
He will lay the foundation stone for the new detention center at Agra airport worth over Rs 570 crore, Darbhanga airport worth Rs 910 crore, and Bagdogra airport worth around Rs 1,550 crore, it said.
The prime minister will inaugurate new airport facilities at Rewa, Ambikapur, and Saharanpur which are being constructed at a cost of over Rs 220 crore.
The combined passenger handling capacity of these airports will increase to over 2.3 million passengers per year.
The designs of these airports are influenced and derived from the common elements of the region’s heritage buildings, the statement said.
Among other projects, Modi will launch the 2nd and 3rd phase of the redevelopment of the Varanasi Sports Complex worth over Rs 210 crore under the Khelo India program and the Smart City project.
The project includes the construction of a state-of-the-art sports complex that includes a National Center of Excellence, players’ hostels, a sports science center, multi-sport training grounds, indoor shooting ranges, and martial arts arenas.
Modi will also establish a 100-bed hostel for girls and boys and a community stadium at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium in Lalpur, it said.
He will launch plans to promote tourism at Buddhist sites in Sarnath. These improvements include the construction of pedestrian-friendly streets, new sewers and an improved drainage system, and an area with modern design carts to promote local artisan vendors.
Modi will also launch programs such as tourism development activities at Banasur Temple and Gurudham Temple, as well as beautification and redevelopment of parks, the statement said.
