President-elect Trump appoints Olivia Trusty as FCC commissioner
Republican Senate aide Olivia Trusty has been appointed commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), President-elect Trump announced Thursday afternoon of Truth Social, finding the majority of Republicans within the agency.
Trusty currently serves as a qualified staff member on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Before that, he was policy director of the Senate Commerce Committee, where he “fought tirelessly to grow the Economy, empower Innovation, and reignite the American Dream,” Trump wrote in the post.
The FCC will be split 2-2 between Democrats and Republicans until it is confirmed by the Senate.

“Olivia will work with our new FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr, to quickly reduce regulations, protect Free Speech, and ensure that every American has access to affordable and fast Internet,” Trump wrote.
Carr was appointed to the commission in 2017 under Trump’s first term and continued to serve on the agency under President Biden, Fox News Digital previously reported.
Trusty worked for the staff of Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Rep. Bob Latta, R-Ohio.
He served on the Energy and Commerce Committee, focusing on manufacturing and trade as well as digital commerce and consumer protection.
Between graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and getting his master’s degree from Georgetown University, Trusty was a government relations consultant for Verizon and a policy representative at Qwest Communications, according to LegiStorm.
Comcast Chief Legal Officer Tom Reid released a statement after the appointment, saying, “We applaud President-elect Trump for this strong decision.”
