Polish funeral apologizes after body falls from hearse amid traffic

WARSAW, Poland (AP) – A funeral home in Poland issued an unusual apology Saturday after a body being transported fell out of a hearse into traffic.

Polish media reported that a man was driving down the street on Friday in Stalowa Wola, a city in southeastern Poland, when he first saw a sheet on his car window. When the sheet slipped, he saw the body lying on the road. For a moment, the driver was afraid that he had hit someone.

Local media published a photo of the body lying on the white-lined pedestrian crossing where it had come out of the car.

The funeral company, Hades Funeral Services, released a statement on Saturday taking responsibility for the incident and blaming the hearse’s malfunction.

“It is with regret that we inform you that due to an unexpected technical failure of the electric lock in the hearse, when the body of the deceased was being transported, an unfortunate incident occurred that does not reflect the high standards of our company, our deep sympathy with the families of the deceased, and the respect we always show to the deceased,” the company wrote in a statement posted on its website. .

It apologized “to all those who were disappointed and offended by this incident.”
